Middle School Basketball parents express concern regarding season being forfeited due to inclement weather

JACKSON, Tenn- We start things on the hard wood with growing concern.  As here recently
we know we have had inclement weather across West Tennessee. Which resulted in
several middle school boys and girls basketball games being forfeited.

Specifically the Northeast Jaguars and the Jackson career technology lady bulldogs.
Now several parents have taken
to social media to express their frustrations over the fact their
kids weren’t afforded the opportunity to finish out the remainder of
the regular season.

“We also want them to back these kids just because it can’t be a one off what if it happen again you gotta be ready to support the kids the kids shouldnt be the only people
making the sacrifices they didn’t ask for the snow i bet you they enjoyed it they enjoyed being off
but they didn’t ask to have their whole season the season is done and they didn’t get a chance to the district awards that some of these kids most definitely would have won wont get a chance to win them and the eight graders wont get a chance again so they forfeiting and sacrifices everything just think about the kids that was starting in the 6th grade that done worked
they way to the starter to play in the 8th grade and now they don’t get to play to earn the award.”

“It made me feel very disappointed cause we worked hard to get here we practice all day long and it made me feel like all this thing didn’t even like working like playing all these games it made me feel like it wouldn’t do to nothing so it was just cancelled made me feel
disappointed”

The players and coaches were told a postseason schedule would be released in which they would
be able to compete in the district tournament with a chance to advance
to sectionals, and possibly the state championship. However, that all changed earlier this week.
” If we don’t go to school on Monday we won’t play.  We don’t have transportation
so we cant play. In Humboldt  we was gone get them to Humboldt them girls went to practice
came home from practice an hour later season end. So where was the communication at?”

This is what the deputy  superintendent  of Jackson
Madison county school system Dr. Ricky Catlett had to say in an email to Ms Hodges.
Quote “As a district we do not allow extracurricular activities to take place when school is cancelled. This
practice exists to protect students, families, and staff. Given the ongoing risk of traffic related injury,
including concerns about refreezing conditions over the next several days, this is not a risk we are willing to take.”
end quote.
