City of Jackson’s Mayoral Salary Committee meets

JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson’s Mayoral Salary Committee met Monday to discuss an increase in the mayor’s salary.

The mayor’s salary was increased four years ago and it is revised every four years. There is a separate salary committee that comes together that is led by the vice mayor.

The mayor’s salary is determined by a current base salary, then committee members gather information from full-time mayoral compensation in cities across the country.

The salary includes a pension, car allowance, and other benefits like dental and medical.

The current salary for the mayor is $142,015, and the projected increase for July of 2026 will be $144,855.

For the next elected mayor their salary will go up 2.5% each year for four years.

“All city employees, just a pitch for the city, have an excellent pension plan, but is the mayor covered in that? That’s a question we had. It was also viewed as an HR issue. It is not something that the salary committee can decide upon. The other caveat to the motion made today was to allow for a $50,000 car benefit in a year and a half,” said Councilwoman Marda Wallace.

With the growth that is projected for Jackson, the city feels they are in a good position. Mayor Conger is up for re-election in a year and a half.

2027 will be the next mayoral election along with council members. For the next elected mayor in 2027, there will be a cost of living increase of 2.5% each year for the next four years.
