Local businesses offer unique Valentine’s Day gift alternatives

JACKSON, Tenn. — With Valentine’s Day three days away, local businesses are offering alternatives to traditional flowers and candy for couples seeking unique gift ideas.

Emily Haley, owner of Velvet Volumes, said her bookstore provides several options for book lovers.

“We do new and used books, blind date with a book which is a book kind of secretly wrapped up with some goodies on the outside, and we have all kinds of bookish merchandise too, so bags, bookmarks, book covers, book sleeves, just a little bit of everything,” Haley said.

For couples seeking permanent expressions of love, body modification shops offer matching tattoos and piercings. Bruce Watts said his shop, Zero Regrets Tattoo and Piercing, provides comprehensive services.

“We do full on body modification as far as piercing nose to belly button, any kind of area that you would like done, and then as far as tattoos we have artists that are capable of tattooing the inside of your ear lobes all the way down to your big toe,” Watts said.

Watts said he and his wife spent their first date getting matching piercings and have been together ever since.

Active couples can try pickleball at the Picklebarn.

We visited the Picklebarn Wednesday and as there’s plenty of room for brand new players so if you’re looking to take on the sport you can buy a kit at almost any sports equipment store.
