Madison County Highway Committee discusses traffic study

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Highway Committee has just wrapped up a traffic study around Pope School on Ashport Road.

The study was to compare the projection and outcomes from the previous traffic study.  It found many similarities with a few notable exceptions.  For one, it does not recommended a roundabout at Pleasant Plains and Ashport Road, as the previous study did.

Highway Superintendent Bart Walls told us about another suggested improvement.

“A right turn or east bound right turn on lane on Ashport Road needs to be installed at Old Humboldt Road. And a north bound, left turn lane needs to be installed on Old Humboldt Road turning on to Ashport. I think everybody was pretty much in agreement from the get-go is that was an improvement that needed to be made, ” said Walls.

The city is currently looking over the study to determine what steps to take.
