HVAC technicians say now is the time to tune up cooling systems
JACKSON, Tenn. — Spring has arrived signaling blooming flowers and warmer temps. Now is the perfect time to service your HVAC system ahead of the summer.

Broken HVAC systems can be costly to repair. Even small problems can turn expensive if ignored. Spring is the perfect season to make sure your system is in good shape.
“Basically by doing that, you’re getting ahead of the game by finding any issues like say if your capacitor’s weak, anything like that, we’ll be able to get ahead of the game and get it fixed before you’re in the middle of a summer,” said Colton Nichols, service tech for Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical.

HVAC maintenance usually includes checking and cleaning burners and inspecting filters. A technician will also check your home’s carbon monoxide, contractors, and relays.
“You’re getting your condenser cooler cleaned, that’s going to make the compressor work not nearly as hard. You’re going to have a lot better energy efficiency with the unit. You’re going to catch breakdowns before they happen,” said Nichols.
On average, an HVAC tune up can take between 30 to 45 minutes and costs may vary. If you notice unusual rattling or knocking noises, it may be time to all a professional.
“If your unit sounds like your grandmother’s refrigerator that she’s been had for 30 years, then you know something’s going on with it probably. So, it’ll be good to give us a call,” said Nichols.
Experts recommend changing your air filter every 30 to 90 days, keeping your outdoor a/c unit clear of debris, and sealing any air leaks.
“We actually have a in-house monitoring system that we can check. If you’re a club member, we can check your unit and make sure that everything’s operating remotely from our shop,” said Nichols.
Improper HVAC maintenance can lead to a faulty or broken system right when you need it the most.
