According to Delta, members of Congress are offered airport escorts, red coat services and more, but now, they’ll be treated like any other customer.
“Next to safety, Delta’s No. 1 priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment,” the company said in a statement.
Delta did not say how long the travel perks would be suspended. The Capital Desk, a flight reservations line, will still be open.
Since Feb. 14, Republicans and Democrats have been arguing about funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes the Transportation Security Administration.
Democrats are demanding policy changes to Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, while Republicans want to pass temporary funding with no strings attached.
Long lines have since plagued America’s airports, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where up to 40% of TSA agents are reportedly calling out while staff members work without a paycheck.
Last Tuesday, Delta CEO Ed Bastian condemned the holdup on CNBC.
“It’s inexcusable that our security agents, front-line workers central to what we do, are not being paid,” he said. “We’re outraged. Let’s get our people who are essential to our security paid quickly.”
