Family members said LaKesha Newsom, 35, was flown to the hospital on March 3 after she was found in a shallow ditch.

Newsom was resuscitated after flatlining on the way to the hospital.

Doctors were able to save Newsom’s life, but her family said seeing her covered in bandages, hooked up to machines and unable to speak was devastating.

When the tubes were removed, Newsom was able to tell her family what happened.

“She felt the dogs gnawing on her, eating on her,” her mother, Rosie Young, said. “The only thing in her head was, ‘I want to live.’ And I told her, for ‘You to be here today, you have life in you.’”

Newsom said she was the victim of a dog attack. Her family suspected there was more to the story due to the nature of her injuries, which her family said could include the loss of multiple limbs.

Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department said in a post on Facebook that they arrested 54-year-old Sandra Harris in connection with this dog attack.

Harris has been charged with aggravated assault, specifically manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.
