Greenpower USA race event takes place in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.—Greenpower USA is giving kids a hands on way to learn engineering by building and racing electric go carts.

But the event started with a moment of silence. Kenwood Middle School students were expected to attend the Greenpower USA event this weekend but were faced with an unfortunate tragedy traveling for their field trip on Highway 70.

Greenpower USA started back in 2014 partnering with schools to give students the chance to design, build, and race electric go carts.

This is what Greenpower USA Executive Director Drew Sparks had to say.

“We have several events all around the country every year in May. The program where kids get the opportunity to build race and design electric go carts,” Sparks said.

He also says students learn more than just mechanics like teamwork, problem solving, and how to present their work.

The program starts as young as fourth grade.
