Walk Against Colon Cancer held in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.— A local group is taking a stand against colon cancer.

A Colon Cancer Walk took place Saturday at North Park in Jackson.

The annual walk is held to bring awareness to the disease and its prevention. The event also honors the survivors as well as those who are fighting the disease now.

Members who take part in the walk include survivors, family and friends of survivors or current fighters. Participants also celebrate with a cook out at the event.

“We’re just here to support, support not just colon cancer survivors, but those that are actively into any cancer, because that is a word that no one ever wants to hear,” said Deneene Barbour, colon cancer survivor.

Colon and rectal cancers are the third most commonly diagnosed in the U.S.
