JACKSON, Tenn.– A somber event was held Monday evening, reflecting on the life of a 19-year-old victim of this past weekend’s shooting at Lane College.

A candlelight vigil was held for the victim of Saturday’s shooting. Since the event was private, we were unable to get inside the barricade for a closer look at the event. However, we were able to witness the event from outside the barricade.

The vigil began around 7:15 in the evening near the Kirkendoll Student Center, along Lane Avenue inside the Lane College campus.
Visitors were asked to wear red and black to the event. From what we could see, there were around 50 to 75 people out along Lane Avenue.

Music was being played for attendees over a loudspeaker, as attendees lit candles in support of the shooting victim.

Leaders with Lane College released a statement about the loss of the student that read in part, “The recent passing of a Lane College student is a tragic loss, deeply felt across our campus and the broader community.  Our students are the heart of the college, and we mourn this loss together.”

With safety concerns rising, the college says it remains under a strict weapon-free policy.
Officials also say they are taking precautions to protect students, faculty and staff, while fully cooperating with law enforcement.
