12-year-old hailed as hero after running into burning home to save brothers
RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WJCL) – A Georgia girl is being hailed as a hero after she helped save her brothers’ lives.

Macy had just gotten home from school when she saw her house was on fire. That’s when the 12-year-old jumped into action and alerted her brothers to the danger.
“She’s an incredible girl and I’m very proud of her,” Lisa Johnson, Macy’s mother, said.
Macy’s brave actions saved the lives of her two older brothers.
The house caught fire just before 3 p.m. Monday. Flames tore through the garage of the two-story home.
Macy’s two older brothers were inside, completely unaware.
“My 14-year-old had come home from school not feeling well and he was actually in bed in that bedroom right above the garage. He was sleeping. He had no idea,” Johnson said. “And my oldest son was preparing to go to work. He was in the shower, again, had no idea until she started screaming.”
Macy had just stepped off the school bus and did not hesitate.
“You can see the moment where she realized that her house was burning, and she ran to the front door and just screamed into the house, ‘Get out. The house is on fire! The house is on fire!’” Johnson said.
Firefighters from Richmond Hill and Bryan County arrived quickly and stopped the fire before it consumed the entire house.
But for the Johnson family, who just moved in months ago, the loss is devastating.
“We’ve lost probably a good 75 to 80% of everything. My 14-year-old lost everything in his room. Everything. That room is just gone. My oldest son and my oldest daughter, they’ve lost all of their home furnishings, most of their clothes,” Johnson said. “So, they pretty much lost it all. I’ve lost all of my small appliances, probably mattresses off of our beds.”
But through it all, they have each other.
“Hard as it is to know that we’ve lost almost everything, that we have a lot of memories, a lot of good things, we have each other and we have God,” Johnson said. “And I have faith in him and there’s a reason for everything.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
