Dyer Co. death investigation results in Second Degree Murder Charge

DEATH INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN SECOND DEGREE MURDER CHARGE
DYER COUNTY, TN – April 3, 2026 – On January 30, 2026, deputies with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office responded to 548 Peach Road in reference to an unresponsive female. The individual, identified as Katrina Olds, 44, was transported to the Dyersburg Emergency Room, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.
The Dyer County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified, and an autopsy was ordered due to suspected foul play.
Investigator Jeremy Caldwell was assigned to the case and immediately initiated a homicide investigation.
As a result of the investigation, autopsy findings, and additional facts uncovered during the course of this case, Jermiah Lashun Johnson was arrested tonight and charged with Second Degree Murder in connection with the tragic death of Katrina Olds. Special thanks to the Dyersburg Police Department for their help bringing him into custody.
The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Mrs. Olds during this difficult time. We also express appreciation to the 29th Judicial District Attorney General Danny Goodman for his aggressive stance on these cases and his office be prosecuting this case. We appreciate the judge declaring the residence where this death occurred a public nuisance ordering it to be shut down.
Lt. Investigator Jim Joyner stated: “Since this new state law went into effect, this arrest joins numerous other second-degree murder charges filed by the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office related to overdose deaths in Dyer County. I am impressed by the great work done by Investigator Jeremy Caldwell on this case collaborating with Dyersburg Police Department, the judge declaring the house a public nuisance, and the District Attorney’s Office prosecuting it. I look forward to justice being served in her tragic death. My message is clear: you poison our citizens with illegal drugs that cause their death – we’re coming for you!”
