Jackson State Community College hosts artificial intelligence summit
JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s one of the biggest shifts in the modern workforce. Today, Jackson State Community College hosted an artificial intelligence summit to explore how AI is changing ways we work, learn, and innovate.
AI isn’t something that only affects big companies or big cities. The people gathered here today are working to ensure that West Tennessee keeps moving forward
Several leaders and professionals across the Madison County area came to explore how artificial intelligence is impacting our community.
Madison County Mayor A.J. Massey and President & CEO of the Greater Jackson Chamber Kyle Spurgeon, spoke on how AI is starting to be used in the Jackson-Madison County area.
Madison County just held their first meeting regarding Project Madison which will open the door for the county to join the AI space and integrate some of the processes they use.
“As we, over the next 12 to 24 months, look at things that have worked and things that hasn’t. We’re able to put some pieces in place that will improve processes throughout the county. Ultimately, what it is going to do is it is going to improve customer service expectations within our county and it is going to lower cost while making us more efficient. All of those things mean that those tax dollars can be used to better the lives in Madison County,” said Massey.
The Greater Jackson Chamber began using larger language AI models about 3 years ago and these models have made the chamber more informed and efficient.
“It’s made us more efficient and it helped us to utilize our resources better and it has made us more informed,” said Spurgeon.
There is concern that AI will take over jobs that a human would perform however individuals who understand and know how to use AI will be competitive.
“There will be jobs that are eliminated because of artificial intelligence but moving forward the people who understand how to utilize AI are going to be more valuable than those we don’t,” said Spurgeon.
Jackson State Community College is also starting to integrate AI into education to improve overall performance.
Associates with Jackson Energy Authority, West Tennessee Healthcare, and FirstBank also attended to showcase how AI is evolving within their companies.
The summit was held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday and also included an announcement of a partnership between Toyota Boshoku and Jackson State.
