Gibson County Coaching legend Mitch Wilkins retires
After 50 years Gibson county head girls basketball coach
Mitch Wilkins has decided to retire.
During his career he coached boys in Missouri
for 36 years getting to 4 final fours and 5 elite eights.
Then he spent six seasons coaching boys in Henry county.
Afterwards he spent 14 years in Gibson county where
earned 8 district championships, 5 regional titles,12 sectional appearances, 3 elite eights,
2 final fours, a state runner up in 2016 and of course his two
state title wins in 2019 and 2024. So overall he has thirty 20 win
seasons, five 30 win seasons, 21 coach of the year awards and
ends his career with 1,126 wins. Their will also be a retirement
celebration on Sunday April 19th to honor coach Wilkins at Gibson county
high school from 3:30 pm 5:00 pm. I was able to talk with coach
Wilkins earlier today about the retirement and he said
” Yes, it is after 50 years. I’ve been blessed so well. Its time for me
to be a pawpaw”
