Haywood Co. Fire Department battles structure fire in Brownsville

HAYWOOD CO., Tenn.— Fire Chief Dan Feathers released the following information regarding a structure fire Saturday afternoon in Haywood County.

Haywood County Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire in Haywood County
Haywood County, TN – 04/11/2026- The Haywood County Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1455 Shaw Road in Brownsville, Tennessee, on 04/11/2026. The incident was reported at 2:24 p.m., with units dispatched one minute later at 2:25 p.m.
The first arrival, Brush Truck 11 reached the scene at 2:36 p.m. and found the residence fully involved in flames. Engine 2 arrived approximately at 2:42 p.m., and the structure collapsed shortly thereafter at 2:44 p.m.
Haywood County Fire Department mobilized significant resources, including 4 engines, 3 tankers, and 4 brush trucks. Additional support came from Stanton Engine 4, Haywood County Ambulance, and the Haywood County EMA/Support Unit. Approximately 23 firefighters assisted in extinguishing the blaze and securing the scene.
One occupant safely escaped the residence with no apparent injuries observed on scene but was advised to seek further medical observation at a hospital. The residence was equipped with working smoke detectors that activated during the incident, aiding in the occupant’s escape. No other injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross has been notified to aid the affected occupant(s). The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cause and Origin Division of the State of Tennessee.
The Haywood County Fire Department commends the quick response of all involved agencies and reminds residents of the importance of functional smoke detectors in preventing fire-related tragedies.
