Mass shooting near Indiana University leaves multiple people injured, including teen
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Gray News) – Nine people were injured in a shooting near Indiana University during the Little 500 Weekend.
Bloomington Police responded to reports of gunfire just before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, at a celebration following the “Little 500” collegiate bicycle race.
Officers were in the area to keep an eye on a large crowd when they heard what sounded like multiple gunshots, according to a press conference.
Officials say five women were shot, and another four people were injured while trying to run away, including a 17-year-old. The others ranged in age from 18 to 21 years old.
Investigators said that after reviewing cell phone and video footage, the situation started with a fight between two women near a restaurant.
Multiple people were seen pulling out their guns, investigators said. Two separate people were believed to have fired their guns.
At this time, no arrests had been confirmed.
