JACKSON Tenn.,- The Jackson chapter of the American Red Cross is urging West Tennesseans to act now before icy weather arrives. Jennifer McCraw, with the Red Cross says you need to have an emergency kit ready in your home, car, and workplace. They also suggest you have at least a three day supply of food and water ready. “You can make sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly, anything you don’t have to heat up,” explained McCraw. Also have extra batteries at hand, along with flashlights and a first aid kit. “You need to have band-aids and a seven day supply of medications you or your family member may need,” said McCraw. If power is out for long periods of time have extra blankets and clothing if you don’t have an alternate heat source. “Prepare for pipes freezing. We’re going to see really low temperatures, so keep your faucets trickling,” suggested McCraw.
