Crews Repair Potholes Caused by Winter Weather

JACKSON, Tenn.–Road crews work to repair potholes caused by winter weather. Monday morning following a winter blast, employees with the Jackson Street Department got to work fixing potholes. “We got the shoveling, then the looping, then we roll it,” said Arthur Chism, a street department worker. Chism supervises pothole repair in Jackson. “Just about on every, on every street we might have some,” he said. “I couldn’t give you no estimation how many, but I got plenty right now.” The Tennessee Department of Transportation says potholes form when rain freezes inside cracks on the road then expands. Drivers say they have noticed more potholes. “It’s actually making it a rough ride,” said Ramona Brown, a driver. Brown tries to avoid bumps in the road. “Just make sure on the look out for potholes, not more of swerving around cause it you swerve around, might cause an accident,” said Brown. The city street department had two trucks making repairs Monday. Chism estimates they can repair up to 60 potholes in a day. “Be patient with us,” he said. “We working on them as fast as we can.” The street department plans to add another truck on Tuesday. The Jackson Street Department says it already used about 30 tons of salt. The city says it still has about 470 tons on hand, and they can get more if necessary.
