South Side HS hosts appreciation program for veterans

JACKSON, Tenn. — Veterans Day came a little early for servicemen and women as South Side Senior High School hosts an appreciation program.

High school students gathered in the school’s gym Friday afternoon to honor vets and show their appreciation. Veterans were given special seating on the gym floor. The student council, JROTC, faculty members, the band and choir showed their appreciation with speeches, singing and words of gratitude.

Organizers say it’s important to teach the students the meaning of service and the sacrifices veterans make.

“They kind of see the honor that the men and women deserve, especially with everything that they’ve had to deal with from the beginning to the end of World War I,” said Jake Stoffregen, history teacher at South Side Senior High School.

This was the third year members of the armed services were honored with a special program.
