Rain Likely, Some Ice and Some Snow Possible This Weekend
Weather Update – 11:00 p.m. – Friday, December 7th
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Lauderdale, Obion, and Weakley counties in northwest Tennessee from 3 a.m. Saturday morning to 6 p.m. Saturday night. This means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties tomorrow, especially in these areas. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities on Saturday, and use caution while driving! The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5-1-1. Make sure to check with your local congregation and our website for any updates to church services on Sunday.
Showers have been brief and light so far for West Tennessee, as temperatures are above freezing throughout the lowest 2,500 feet of the atmosphere. We’ll see the chance for precipitation increase throughout the early morning hours of Saturday with the best chance for a mix of snow and ice occurring in northwest Tennessee (mainly north of I-40) tomorrow and Sunday morning.
TONIGHT
Cold and cloudy conditions will continue overnight with winds from the north at 5 to 10 miles per hour. Rain will advance from south to north across West Tennessee early Saturday morning with some of us waking up tomorrow with rain already falling. Snow and ice will mix in with rain in northwest Tennessee tomorrow morning and afternoon but accumulations should remain light and may even be removed with above freezing temperatures forecast for Saturday. The best chance for any significant accumulation in West Tennessee this weekend will be from Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
Some of the recent models have been increasing the forecast snowfall significantly. This type of scenario, while not impossible, is not the likeliest outcome right now.

Weather data has more consistently shown less than 2″ of snow falling in West Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday which is the scenario described below.

Ice in the form of sleet and freezing rain remains a concern as well with a potential for up to ⅓” of ice falling in areas of West Tennessee north of I-40.
In any case, the precipitation may be tapering off on Sunday morning, but roads may be icy or even snow covered in parts of West Tennessee – especially north of Interstate 40.
