Man Arrested after Month Long Crime Spree

WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — More than 20 guns were stolen during a crime spree in two West Tennessee Counties. Investigators said the thief broke into numerous homes and cars in Weakley and Henry counties over the course of one month. They said he stole the guns to trade or sell to buy drugs. The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department said when different burglaries started coming in around the beginning of December, they had no idea they were all connected. “When they first started coming in, there were vehicles that were broken into and houses. They were scattered on different parts of county,” Detective Marty Plunk said. Tony Goode was arrested after a witness placed him at the scene of a car burglary in Dresden. Before his arrest, police said he stole guns and jewelry in Gleason, Paris Landing, and other West Tennessee towns. Detective Plunk said he is not sure how many total guns were stolen. “I know we recovered 10 from one individual and four from another. It’s 20 plus,” he said. Investigators said Goode and his girlfriend knew most or all of the people they were accused in stealing from, and most likely already knew they had guns and where to find them. “Most of his motivation came from money to buy drugs. To trade these weapons for drugs,” Detective Plunk said. Charlie Lyles was also arrested. Police said he refused to tell where three stolen guns were that he bought from Goode. Lyles is out on bond. Detective Plunk said Goode targeted at least six people in Weakley County, but he believes he only stole for money, not to hurt anyone. “It’s not in his nature but you don’t know someone’s nature when they’re high and their doing this type of activity,” Detective Plunk said. Investigators said to always make sure you record the serial numbers on your valuables so if they are ever stolen and then recovered, it will help in getting them back.
