JACKSON, Tenn. — A Middle Tennessee man has been sentenced to prison for stealing from Jackson and Madison County homeowners in roofing scams in 2012. Nickey Evans, 39, of Hendersonville, was sentenced Monday in Madison County Circuit Court, Division II. Judge Don Allen ordered Evans to serve a total of 10 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections for one count of theft over $10,000 and four counts of theft over $1,000. After his 10 year prison sentence, Evans must serve 11 months and 29 days in the Madison County Jail for operating a business without a license. An investigation by Jackson police showed that Evans was the owner of a business called Inspector Roofing. Evans operated this business in rented office space on Carriage House Drive. Between June and September 2012, three Jackson and two Madison County homeowners entered into separate contracts with Inspector Roofing to repair damaged roofs. Evans was paid amounts between $3,300 and $10,682 by the homeowners. After repeated attempts over several months, none of the homeowners were successful in getting the work completed or getting a refund. The loss by all five homeowners totaled $27,000. The investigation also showed that Evans operated Inspector Roofing without a license. Investigators feel there could be other victims. Anyone who believes they were taken advantage of by Evans or Inspector Roofing is asked to contact Investigator Ashley McCullar with the Jackson Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit at 731-425-8584 or amcullar@cityofjackson.net.
