Burroughs Steps Away From the Dragons’ Sidelines

JACKSON, Tenn. – Lane College is losing its head Dragon. Head football coach Derrick Burroughs is resigning to become the defensive coordinator at Jackson State in Mississippi. “My need for winning a championship exceeded Lane’s need,” said Burroughs. “The program is in a better place.” Under the helm of Burroughs, Lane’s football team got better year after year. This season, the Dragons finished 6-4, their first winning season since 1995. “It was hard. I saw disappointment in some of them. I was more than just a coach,” explains Burroughs who broke the news to his team on Tuesday afternoon. Burroughs said his experience at Lane was a great learning lesson and he’ll miss the bond with his players. “It didn’t seem like anyone was in a rush. I rather be in a place that cares about athletics.”
