‘Tigers Go Gold’ in Hardin Co. for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — A local school is doing something special for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Hardin County High School’s “Maroon Friday” was joined with gold as the Tigers commemorated the month.

The tradition started eight years ago, when the school went all out for Aaron Bell, who fought neuroblastoma and later passed away.

This year, the community bought t-shirts, painted “the rock” gold, and students are writing letters to cancer patients.

“Before Aaron, before his parents brought the awareness to Hardin County, we really didn’t know anything about it,” said ‘Tigers Go Gold’ organizer Dana Stricklin. “And now, we know more about childhood cancer and the statistics, and it helps to honor his memory.”

Hardin County expects to raise more than $10,000 this year from the t-shirt sales.
