JMCSS Releases Statement on JCM Student Death

JACKSON, Tenn, — Superintendent of Jackson Madison County Schools, Dr. Verna Ruffin, said they are prepared to have grief counselors on hand to students and faculty at Jackson Central-Merry. 17-year-old JCM student, Tyrone Sterling, died from smoke inhalation after a house fire on Carolane Drive, Saturday morning. Dr. Ruffin released this statement regarding his death: “We mourn the tragic loss of Tyrone “Bubba” Sterling. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family, friends and staff who love and will miss him.” His family said they are planning on visiting the school Monday where students plan to wear khaki and green, the schools colors, and shirts with Tyrone’s number, 62, on the back. Funeral arrangements will take place Saturday Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. at Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
