Jackson Police Charge Another Man in Connection with Double Homicide

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Another man has been charged and arrested in connection with the Jan. 15 shooting deaths of student athlete Markel Owens and stepfather Johnny Shivers. Roddarous Bond, 19, of Murfreesboro, is charged with attempted coercion of a witness. Bond was arrested Sunday morning and booked at the Madison County Jail. On Feb. 4, a material witness in the case started receiving phone calls from the Madison County Jail but did not answer. Investigators learned that Johnny Wade had learned the witness’ phone number. Wade later directed Roddarous Bond to find the witness. Investigators further learned that Wade had talked about the murder case not proceeding without the witness. Investigators later intercepted a three-way phone conversation from the Madison County Jail between Wade and Bond. Wade asked Bond if he had found the witness and Bond replied that he could not find them. Police anticipate additional charges on Johnny Wade for his part in attempting to coerce the witness. Bond is scheduled to be arraigned via video link at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Jackson City Court.
