RIFA Accepts Challenge to Fight Hunger

JACKSON, Tenn. – RIFA has accepted a challenge from the Feinstein Foundation to raise funds during the months of March and April to fight hunger in our community. For the 17th consecutive year, the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation will divide one million dollars among selected hunger-fighting agencies throughout the nation. The amount each agency receives is proportionate to the amount of donations it receives. Simply put, the more money and food RIFA receives during this two-month period, the more we will receive from Mr. Feinstein’s Challenge. All contributions during this two-month period will be used locally. The money and food donated by the community and the additional funds from the Feinstein Foundation will support RIFA’s Soup Kitchen, Food Bank and Snack Backpack ministry as we continue our work feeding the hungry in and around Jackson and Madison County. During 2013, RIFA provided 63,194 hot meals to the homeless, the disabled, the elderly, the working and non-working poor in our community. Additionally, RIFA provided 104,904 weekend meals to elementary school children who have little or no food on Saturday & Sunday, emergency food to 1,716 individuals & families and distributed 130,996 pounds of food to other nonprofit agencies fighting hunger. According to Lisa Tillman, Executive Director, “This event is crucial to our efforts in the fight against hunger in our community. Partial matching fund drives like this make your donations worth more than face value and stretch even farther to reach the hungry in our area. Your investment in this campaign will make you a partner in the most successful grassroots effort to fight hunger of all times. ” RIFA is encouraging area churches and organizations to take part in the Feinstein Challenge and conduct a food or fund drive during this period. How to get involved: make a monetary donation during the months of March and April, donate non-perishable food items during those months, organize your friends, family, church or school to hold a food drive to benefit RIFA using the Feinstein Challenge. Please send financial contributions to RIFA, P.O. Box 2301, Jackson,TN 38302 by April 30. Deliver food items to 133 Airways Blvd. Monday through Saturday between 9AM and 4PM.
