State Lawmakers Vote ‘Yes’ on Cursive Writing Bill

JACKSON, Tenn.- State lawmakers vote yes to keeping cursive writing as part of the required curriculum in the state. The house approved the measure 85 to 6. The bill initially proposed that cursive be taught in the third grade, but an amendment was approved requiring the incorporation of cursive writing into the standard curriculum at all grade levels. One local educator says this bill is an important step in the student’s education. “I hope that they will be able to write in cursive and to be able to read and comprehend what they are writing if someone has written in cursive,” said Mellissa Howell, an educator. The bill still must go through the state senate before it could go to the governor.
