Pearl faces big rebuilding job at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Bruce Pearl wants both Auburn and the Southeastern Conference to start being bigger factors in the NCAA tournament.
Pearl takes over an Auburn program that has only made the NCAA field three times since 1988. He also notes that the SEC had just three representatives among the 68 tournament teams.
Pearl said Tuesday night after his hiring that “something has got to be done” in the SEC. He also pledged to get the Tigers back into the NCAA tournament.
He says Auburn fans are “starved” for success on the hard court.
The last seven Auburn coaches have left with losing marks in the league.
Pearl led Tennessee to the NCAA tournament in each of his six seasons before getting fired after lying to NCAA investigators.
