Family Says Human Remains Belong To Missing Dyersburg Man

DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — Less than a day after remains are discovered in a wooded area of Dyer County, Curtis Tyler’s family said they believe it’s their loved one who was found. “Until a positive ID is made we cannot say it’s positively him,” Captain Mark Moody, of the Dyersburg Police Department said. But Amanda Tyler said she’s sure it was her brother’s remains that were recovered by officers Tuesday afternoon. Curtis Tyler went missing in June 2012. “We are pretty sure it’s him because he had a plate in his head and they found it with the remains,” Amanda Tyler said. Family members said they searched near the wooded area several times but didn’t find anything, but on Tuesday a turkey hunter made a shocking discovery. Officials said the hunter found the remains near the Forked Deer River in Dyersburg. Officers have not ruled Tyler’s death a homicide but family members said they know it was no accident. “It’s a relief somewhat but we don’t know why it was done,” Amanda Tyler said. “But someone hurt him.” “We are just hoping who ever is responsible for this to come forward,” Judy Hutching, Curtis’s grandmother said. With more questions than answers, family members said they’re just waiting for a positive ID so they can lay the 27-year-old to rest. The family said they have not been able to talk to the hunter that found the remains but would like to thank him. Officers are asking anyone with any information regarding Tyler’s disappearance to contact the Dyer County’s Sheriff Department or the Dyersburg Police Department.
