EAST JACKSON, Tenn. – A tree-planting ceremony honoring crime victims, and those who work with victims, was held in Jackson today. Victims, law enforcement and advocates gathered inside the First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Dr. due to the threat of rain. Each tree planted includes a marker to remind the public that it was planted in honor of crime victims. The voice for victims honoree for West Tennessee is Roger Wright, project manager of Victim Advocacy at West Tennessee Legal Services. The keynote speaker for the event was Norma Ellington, whose son Jerome was murdered in 2009. Additional events are scheduled for Memphis, Knoxville, Bristol, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro and Clarksville.
