No Guarantee for Northeast Teachers’ Jobs

JACKSON, Tenn. — In an effort to open the Academic Academy at Northeast Middle School in the most successful way possible, School Superintendent Dr. Verna Ruffin said some changes are going to have to be made. “Change can be uncomfortable and when we’re moving toward these practices, it gives them an opportunity to subscribe to where they’d choose to be,” said Dr. Ruffin when talking about teacher placement for Fall 2014. “It is very important in this process that people are buying in the vision that the school is being created.” said Dr. Ruffin. Dr. Ruffin said she wants the incoming principal, Dr. Teresa Tritt, to be able to make decisions and hire teachers individually. But some parents said it is going to be a big adjustment for their kids. “It’s something my son will have to go through again, cause he just got there this year,” said parent Josh Anderson about his sixth grade son at Northeast Middle. Teachers said they want answers why, but Dr. Ruffin said this is not to threaten teachers, but encourage them to perform at higher standards.
