WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — A 20-year veteran of the Sharon Fire Department is on the other side of the job after his home was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday. Assistant Fire Chief, Mike Beal, said he was in a training session with the Sharon Police Department when he got the call it was his home his coworkers were trying to save. “It’s a bad feeling,” Beal said. “Just when you pull up and see everything you’ve ever worked for for 28 years gone in two hours.” We spoke to Sharon’s fire chief, Gary Eddings, who said the fire was massive and hard to put out. “When we tried to go into the front door the heat and flames overtook our firemen,” Eddings said. Several neighboring fire departments were called out to help. Eddings said investigators from Madison County determined a space heater was to blame for the fire. Beal said the heater was turned off, but still plugged in. A spark in the cord is believed to be what started the flames. The family dog was killed in the fire, the only one home when it started. “Just a lot of memories lost but I can get through it,” Beal said. The Sharon Community has set up a donation fund at First State Bank in Sharon. The family asks if you would like to help, make a donation to the Mike Beal Fund.
