Residents Talk About Jackson Meadow Thefts

JACKSON, Tenn. — Rosemary Hammond was one of about a hundred residents of Jackson Meadow Retirement Residence temporarily displaced from a fire in March. When they returned after repairs, Hammond said she and other residents noticed some of their belongings were missing. “It was very upsetting, because I lost things that meant a lot to me and things that can’t be replaced, of course,” Hammond said. Residents were asked to leave their doors unlocked so contractors could work on the facility. Stephen Bragg, one of the contracted workers, is now under arrest and accused in the theft. “During the investigation we learned that he was there on the property one night and didn’t have his painting equipment with him,” Jackson Police Captain Tyreece Miller said. Police say Bragg took advantage of his access and stole jewelry and other items that were priceless to Hammond – things her husband bought for her when they traveled. Captain Miller says some of the belongings will be returned, and residents say they can’t wait to have them back. “Some of the stuff you can’t put a value on. Some of the property has been in their family for years, and now they’ll get it back,” Miller said. “We can’t wait to see the look on their faces,” Hammond said she’s trying not to dwell on what she doesn’t have, and is glad Bragg is now in custody.
