Couch, Tires Recovered From Creek During Earth Day Clean Up

SOUTH MADISON COUNTY — Some local groups spent their Earth Day cleaning up. Workers at the Jackson Office of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation picked up litter from the streams in the area. The group said they found everything from couches to old tires in the Johnson Creek during their cleanup efforts on Tuesday. They say they hope this cleaning session encourages local communities to help keep the county clean.. “It’s just an inherently wrong thing to do,” Amy Fritz, an environmental specialist, said. “We’re hoping today not only to remove the trash, but to create a little bit of environmental awareness about now doing this type of thing.” The Tennessee Department of Transportation donated trash bags for the event.
