Family of Homicide Victim Breaks Silence, Pleads for Answers

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. — The family of a man police say was gunned down in broad daylight speaks out for the first time. “Lord who is the next victim? Lord who is the next victim?” Aver Snipes cries out. “Who is the next victim in this city, Lord when is it gonna stop?” Aver Snipes is pleading for someone to explain why her grandson was shot and killed. “I’m tired of crying, I’m tired,” Aver Snipes expressed. “Lord knows I’m tired, I am tired.” Police say her grandson, 24-year-old Gary Morris was gunned down Monday afternoon. His sister Shaquonna Morris says someone knows who pulled the trigger. “It’s in broad daylight and I know somebody out there seen what happened,” Morris stated. Police say Gary Morris knew the person at the apartment where he died, so far, no arrests have been made. “I wish he would’ve listened to me,” Crystal Morris said, one of the victim’s sisters. “Stop hanging around all those fake folks.” The victim’s mom Kimley Snipes, was too emotional to do an interview. Gary’s grandmother says she doesn’t want the shooter’s mother to experience the pain her family feels. “We don’t have no animosity we don’t have no animosity in our heart, because I know her heart is heavy,” Aver Snipes said. “We not looking for revenge, we looking for answers.” The family says the victims funeral is Tuesday at 2 P.M., at the Mercer Brothers Funeral Home.
