YMCA Planning to Raise $400,000 Within Weeks

EAST JACKSON — A gameplan to raise $400,000 at West Tennessee YMCAs is in the works. “We’re not asking any one person to do an awful lot, we’re asking each person to do a little bit,” Edwin Hays said, YMCA West Tennessee Interim President and CEO. “And if everybody does a little bit, then we’ll be successful.” The money is being raises for renovations at the Trenton, Brownsville and Jackson YMCA locations. “Our plan is for the campaign to last basically three weeks from May 5 through May 22,” Hays said. To make the project possible, Hays says starting May 5, volunteers will take donations from supporters in West Tennessee. “They will have prospect cards for people that will go call on to try to get them to make pledges,” Hays said. The childcare center floors and swimming pool filters are just some of the renovations in the capital campaign. Members like Grace Winters say they’re excited about the plan. “Maybe they can bring stuff that won’t be so breakable and last longer and just teach kids not to break stuff,” Winters said. Workers say the renovations could be beneficial for employees and kids. “Cause if the employees are happy then children will be happy so that’s always a good thing,” Julie Young said, a YMCA Children’s Center employee. If the campaign raises enough money renovations will begin in November.
