Madison County Attorney Up for State Judgeship

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The attorney for Madison County is one of eight candidates up to fill a vacancy on the state court of appeals. Steve Maroney has applied for the judgeship. All the candidates but Maroney are from Shelby County. The list includes Chancellor Kenny Armstrong, circuit judge Robert Lawson Childers, and attorneys Frank S. Cantrell, Oscar C. Carr III, Stephen D. Crawley, Brandy Suzanne Parrish and Stacie S. Winkler. “I think most attorneys – if they are honest – probably aspire at some point to go to the bench and give some thought to that, and certainly I am no different,” Maroney said. “I have considered that over time, and I am grateful for this opportunity.” The governor’s commission for judicial appointments is scheduled to interview the applicants on May 16 in Memphis, and will present Haslam with three finalists to choose from.
