UPDATE: Union Bomb Threat a Hoax, Police Say

NORTH JACKSON — A note threatening a bomb threat found at Union University shook up campus on Friday morning. Luckily, police say it was a hoax. According to Jackson police, a note was found in a school building indicating a bomb was inside the school and that there could be a shooting. Authorities were called to campus at 8:39 a.m. At the height of the search, SWAT and patrol officers were on the campus. A Jackson Police Department dog trained to detect explosive components swept the campus, and the SWAT Team cleared buildings for a potential active shooter. The campus was secured around 1:20 p.m., and Union faculty was able to return to campus at 1:30 p.m., with students following at 2 p.m. JPD officers kept a presence at the gates of the school until 2:30. Officers will continue to conduct ongoing patrols of the campus for an undisclosed period of time. The investigation is ongoing to determine who’s responsible for leaving the note.
