New Pick Tennessee Products App
MILAN, Tenn.- With warm weather and summer like temps finally here, many are heading down to local farms and farmer markets for delicious farm fresh produce. A new app just unveiled by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture will hopefully have more people getting off their feet and down to the farm for family fun. The new app is free for both android and apple iPhone users. It can also be downloaded on MAC, PC, and even other mobile devices such as an iPad. “The new Pick Tennessee Products App connects consumers to farmers easily. Its an opportunity for folks if their looking for fresh strawberries, to pick their own, or looking for a local farmers market nearby. There able to do that in the palm of their hand. This is the first year for the Pick Tennessee Products App. We actually just unveiled it last month. So its brand new and were really excited about it.” Pamela Bartholomew, Agritourism Marketing Specialist for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The Pick Tennessee App hopefully will spread the importance of agriculture compared to manufacturing in West Tennessee. “We use what we have and do the best that we can with what we have though we don’t have some of the large manufacturing facilities like Chattanooga with Volkswagen and some of those other places. We actually just use what we have to our best opportunity.” Curtis Halford, State Representative for Gibson and Carroll Counties. In West Tennessee, agriculture is the largest piece of revenue production coming in a little over 14% of economy. Strawberries as well as other row crops that are seasonably grown such as pumpkins contribute to this. “Well today was day number 2 and it takes a few days before the crop will peak. Today we had a good picking. Fruit quality is just superb, off the charts, and as a product any farmer would be proud of.” Says, Denton Clay Parkins, Owner of Green Acres Farm. App creators hope this new technology will get people off their feet, and down to the farm, to see the importance of this key West Tennessee business.
