Healthwatch: Heaven’s Cradle

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Parents trying to find comfort following the death of an infant due to complications is difficult to find.
In an effort to help families find peace following the death of a newborn, the Heaven’s Cradle fund was created.
The Heaven’s Cradle founder Abby Lackey says the inspiration for the organization came after her own personal tragedy.
“We started Heaven’s Cradle after our son Davis was stillborn,” Lackey said. “My husband and I wanted to reach out to other families who were experiencing the same thing we were experiencing.”
Lackey understands the pain other families experience and her hope Heaven’s Cradle continues to ease suffering and let healing processes begin.
“It just gave me a sense of belonging to know that there were other mothers right here in this community who had gone through what I had gone through,” Susanne Freeman, said who also lost her child at 33 weeks.
Health professionals who work closely with families going through newborn deaths see the importance of Heaven’s Cradle and what it means to those families affected.
“They don’t need to be around all of the happy people that are celebrating a new baby being born into the world,” Lacy Mann, a maternal child assistant said. “They need time with their families just to be by themselves in a quiet place and everybody grieves differently.”
