WEST MADISON COUNTY — Officials at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport have confirmed the federal government has informed them all of their essential air service — or EAS funding — is being pulled. EAS funding subsidizes the cost of having regional service, which is currently provided by Seaport Airlines. According to airport executive director Steve Smith, an appeal requesting one more year to prove the need has already been filed. The airport is currently falling short by about 2 customers per week, according to Smith.
