Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency Celebrates 65th Anniversary

EAST MADISON COUNTY — For 65 years, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency has protected the fish and fisherman of Lake Graham as well as all other state outdoor refuges. On Monday, close to 100 agency workers and leaders gathered in Jackson for a business meeting and celebration to mark this landmark anniversary. “It’s a honor to be here and to be associated with such a fine organization like these folks,” Jeff Griggs, Wildlife Commissioner District 7 and Commission Chairman, said. Employees new and old came out for a walk down memory lane and to see just how far the TWRA has come over its more than 60 years of service. “Sixty-five years is a long time, and I was here at the 50th year anniversary, which reminded me of my service,” Robert W. Parker, a retired TWRA manager, said. “To see old friends and renew acquaintances is an honor that shows the track of this great organization.” Not only does the agency work as a law enforcement branch to ensure outdoorsmen abide by the laws of the land, it is also the caretaker of the wildlife population, regulating how often and how much a hunter or fisherman can harvest. “Going forward, I think if you look throughout the south, Tennessee is one of the most premiere states for hunting and fishing. I would say continue what we’re doing.” Griggs says.
