WEST JACKSON — A recent food drive aided by letter carriers has been deemed a success. Regional Interfaith Association officials were busy weighing and sorting the food from last Saturday’s “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. The Jackson letter carriers and RIFA teamed up for the 22nd annual drive and residents in the Jackson area responded by leaving thousands of pounds of non-perishable food next to their mailboxes. Assistant director of RIFA, Shaun Powers, said the community response was overwhelming. “That’s probably about 15,000 small individual cans of food that we have to sort through,” Powers said. RIFA uses the food in its daily soup kitchen, food bank and snack backpack programs. Anyone can drop off food any time at their location at 133 Airways Blvd in West Jackson.
