Suspended Firefighter Pleads Guilty to March Shooting Incident

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Suspended Jackson firefighter Corye Martin pleaded guilty to two counts of vandalism involving shots fired into the canopy of an East Jackson convenience store. According to court documents, as part of his plea, Martin was sentenced to two 11-month and 29-day probation terms for the shooting incident that happened on March 8. Martin must also pay a fine and complete community service. If he stays out of trouble, the counts will be expunged. Martin was originally charged with reckless endangerment, but that count was dismissed. He’s been on unpaid administrative leave since the incident happened in early March at the Phillips 66 on North Parkway. Police say Martin fired at least three times and hit the store‘s canopy.
