Deadly Crash Renews Fear of Dangerous Stretch of Road

PINSON, Tenn — A deadly crash has residents concerned for their own safety, and many are blaming a dangerous intersection. On Monday, Hidekazu Suzuki was killed near the intersection of Old Pinson Road and Highway 45. According to state troopers, Suzuki died on impact after his car ran into the back of a semi-truck that was turning into A&A Express, a local trucking company. “It’s kind of a blind spot, a hidden spot,” Frank Hall, a Pinson resident said. “So I can see how the driver may not have seen him.” It’s something that Alex Fucci, the owner of A&A Express said he has feared would happened. Fucci said since opening last year, he asked the Tennessee Department of Transportation to add a turning lane at the intersection due to heavy traffic. TDOT said for the state to build a turning lane, traffic studies would have to be conducted, which hasn’t occurred. However, a representative from the Jackson TDOT office said the agency previously offered to issue A&A Express a permit to build a turning lane at its own expense, but the company declined. Officials from the Tennessee Highway Patrol are still investigating the cause of the crash, but said the driver of the semi was not at fault.
