3 in custody following Wednesday shooting in Weakley County
WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — Three people are now facing charges after a shooting critically injured an 18-year-old in Weakley County on Wednesday night.
The Weakley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed 18-year-old Malcolm Lee Jr., of McKenzie, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Investigators say he was arrested following a traffic stop in Humphreys County, in Middle Tennessee.
The victim, Canon Magourick, 18, is currently in a Nashville hospital in critical, but stable, condition, according to investigators.
According to a news release, the traffic stop was about 30 minutes after the U.S. Marshals Service obtained information about the vehicle Lee may have been in during the shooting.
The release says two women are also facing charges related to the shooting.
Mary Beth Lyles, 20, of Martin, is charged with filing a false report after allegedly lying to a U.S. Marshal, then making a call to Lee and warning him, the release says.
Katie Smith, 22, of Martin, is charged with accessory after the fact.
The release says Smith was found in the vehicle with Lee when he was arrested.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests may be forthcoming.
