Deputies: Car Thieves Targeting Churches

HENRY CO. Tenn. — Henry County deputies are warning churchgoers after two cars are stolen this month from church parking lots. “Nothing is sacred anymore,” Connie Highland, whose Toyota Corolla was stolen this Wednesday from Point Pleasant Baptist, said. Deputies say earlier this month a Lincoln Navigator was taken during another Wednesday service at nearby Rosswood Baptist Church. “It’s sad that someone is targeting churches,” Investigator Gary Vandiver said. Both vehicles were found within days, just miles down the road from their churches. Highland tells WBBJ she feels lucky her car was returned on Thursday with little damage. Deputies say both cars were unlocked with the keys inside. “We’ve been here 32 years,” Highland said. “Now here I am with my keys in my hand which I normally never do.” Deputies say other members have reported things missing from their car after service this month. Now investigators ask all churchgoers to keep an eye out, and never leave your car unlocked with your keys inside. No arrests have been made in the thefts.
