Trial For Former Madison County Sheriff Begins

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jury selection for the criminal trial of former Madison County sheriff David Woolfork is set to begin Tuesday morning. Woolfork was indicted last December on counts of Attempted Aggravated Sexual Battery and Domestic Assault, misdemeanor. Both charges stem from the Oct. 10, 2013 incident involving his mistress Deputy Sharon Sangster at her home in west Jackson. On Oct. 11, Sangster was granted a temporary order of protection against Woolfork. She was granted a one-year protection order after 6-hour hearing. Order “stayed” on Dec. 9. (Order of criminal indictment, ban Woolfork from contacting Sangster.) On Feb. 5, 2014, Judge Don Ash granted a temporary ouster filed by Madison County Commission. Later that same day, Woolfork announced his retirement, effective immediately. The trial is expected to last three days. WBBJ will have continuing coverage throughout the entire trial.
