Kroger Pressing Lawmakers to Let Them Sell Wine

JACKSON Tenn. – Kroger recently announced they will soon be setting up wine displays in stores across the state to urge customers to contact their local lawmakers. Kroger and other food chains have been pushing for wine to be sold in grocery stores for several years, but the law has never been passed. “It would be a convenience for grocery chains like Kroger to handle wine,” says Kroger customer Barry Williams. “A lot of the time people just don’t have time to go to several different places.” Local liquor stores are against the law, saying it would hurt the local economy. “What it is is a push by a large company to take funds out of Tennessee. All the profits are going to leave the state.” said small business owner Matthew Cleek. Displays started this weekend in two local Nashville Kroger stores.
